Is Somebody on the Moon?

Our moon is an enigma. The ancients viewed it as a luminous orb, there to brighten the night sky and act as a beacon in the darkness. Some cultures even worshiped it as a god. When the telescope was invented, astronomers took to examining the moon. Soon, maps of the Moon were created, and the speculation arose that the Moon is similar to Earth with mountains, valleys and seas; thus contributing to the belief that it is inhabited. Strange lights and shadows were seen moving across the Moon, supporting the scientists of the day’s theory that the Moon is a vibrant, populated place. As the years passed and telescopes became more powerful, scientists maintained that the Moon could not sustain life. Yet mysterious lights, movement, shadows and other strange phenomena persisted. Just who or what was causing the commotion is still a mystery. Some still wonder, “Is somebody on the Moon?”
